My Gods I love the Autumn....

An update on what I've been doing while not devising polls, tips and amassing annoyances for your reading pleasure. I've been busy, and yet I have been not busy.

Recently, I resigned from my job. I had been working for the same institution for 5 years, in a few different positions, none of which ever really worked for me. Oh, there are many jobs I am fully capable of performing, and well, but unfortunately this Moonkin is high maintenance in the work department. I am one of those obnoxious people who really needs a "career" not a "job." What's the difference? A job you do for a paycheck. It's what I've been doing the past 7 years since graduation. A career is something that you do for more than the money, you have to believe in the work and unfortunately, I haven't had something like that in a while. Fortunately for me, I know what will bring me satisfaction.

This brings me to my next development. Instead of sitting on my couch all day watching Law & Order reruns (although today it seems to be Twilight Zone from the 60s) I'm going back to school. Right now I am part time, next semester, I'll be full time in a certificate program while I apply to graduate school.

What will you be studying Moonkin? We are all dying to know!

Well, I will be applying to Master's of Library and Information Science programs, or MLIS. It's something I've wanted to pursue since I first entered the workforce but I kept putting it on hold for various reasons. I am now in a position of financial & emotional support where I can pursue my dream job. Lucky me.

Additionally, I have discovered Ikea. Where I live we are not special enough to be graced with the presence of Ikea. On a recent trip to Arizona I was able to tour the magic that is Ikea. It was like going to Disney World, with bedroom land and bathroom world and the living room of the future. I was like a kid on their first trip to Disney-everything was new and fresh and clean and I wanted it all. And by the end of it I wanted to cry, stomp my feet and scream from being so tired, just like Disney World. Then you look at the bills and find you've spent about the same but look at all this fabulous stuff!!!!

I turned 35 recently, last week in fact. Thirty-five is a special birthday for me, and not just because I'm now considered "advanced maternal age" when I have children. I believe that my life runs in cycles of 7 years. It seems that every seven years I experience major changes: starting school, graduating (I took a bit choosing a major) working, and now back to school. Each cycle brings new challenges and experiences. I use these birthdays to reflect on life, goals, release myself of past grudges and to move forward. It's a highly introspective time.

It's almost Autumn, my favorite season. Despite what the weather is telling you, Autumn doesn't begin until the equinox on the 23rd of the month. There is something about this season that always makes me feel so happy. It's stew weather, and I love bringing out my crock pot. It's also pie and fresh bread weather and I can't wait to get started on that. In past years I wasn't able to do much, but now that I've got more time, I'm looking forward to doing more home cooking.

That's what I've been up to, what have you been up to?

Thick soups/stews and fresh bread are definitely favorites in autumn. I've got baked potato soup with baguettes on next week's meal plan and I'm already anticipating it! *tummy grumbles*
